Four Nigerians nabbed for credit card fraud – bs-cbnnews.com – 17 Jul 09

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested four Nigerian nationals for alleged credit card fraud.

The NBI identified the four Nigerians as Benson Alochukwa Onwuama, Rotini Mumuni Oladapo, Robinson Adatire, and Olarewaju Mojeed Ayegbusi.

The bureau said the foreigners were arrested at their apartment in Bacoor town, Cavite province last June 25.

Julian Tzolov apprehended by Department of Justice

(Bloomberg) — Julian Tzolov, the fugitive former Credit Suisse Group AG broker who was charged with bail jumping, has been arrested, Assistant Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Daniel Spector said in a letter to court filed today. Authorities in Marbella, Spain have taken Tzolov into custody following an international manhunt after he disappeared in New York in May.

Tzolov, who’s accused of fraudulently selling clients subprime mortgages linked to auction-rate securities, was declared a fugitive in June.

Judge Permits Madoff to Remain Free on Bail

A judge allowed disgraced money manager Bernard Madoff to remain free on bail Monday, rejecting an attempt by prosecutors to send him to jail for mailing more than $1 million in jewelry to family and friends over the holidays.

The decision is sure to outrage investors who have been clamoring for Madoff to be sent to jail for allegedly carrying out the largest financial fraud in history.

Prosecutors said the gifts were grounds to have his bail revoked because what’s left of Madoff’s assets will have to be returned to burned investors.

But the judge not swayed by their arguments that Madoff represents an economic danger to the community because of the size of the fraud and his actions in sending the gifts.
